Brno - Masaryk University can begin preparations for the reconstruction of the Faculty of Arts, which has been the only one not yet included in the extensive renovations of the school's historical buildings. The school's administration reached an agreement on the start of preparations with the Minister of Education Petra Buzková, who announced this to reporters in Brno today. According to the university's rector Petr Fiala, the faculty was not included in the project's restoration of the entire material-technical base of the school, which includes the construction of the university campus in Brno-Bohunice. The total costs of the project exceed six billion crowns. "Certain financial limits were probably set from the beginning, and only some buildings were selected," said Fiala, who was not the rector at the time of the decision regarding the entire project. The school's administration has been seeking funds for the renovation of the Faculty of Arts for some time. Given the large amount of money that the school has been receiving from the state to address the lack of space, this has not been easy, the rector acknowledged. However, according to him, the Faculty of Arts has developed significantly in recent years. The renovation of the campus is estimated to cost around 250 million crowns. The increase in the amount of money from the Ministry of Education for Brno universities in recent years has also been confirmed by Buzková. While in 2003 these universities received almost one billion crowns, this year more than 1.4 billion crowns is planned. Those Brno schools that are well-prepared have a better chance of obtaining funds, Buzková emphasized. The costs for the renovations of historical buildings and the construction of the university campus from 2002 to 2008 amount to 6.42 billion crowns. The Ministry of Education contributes 2.2 billion crowns to the financing. The rest is covered by a loan from the European Investment Bank and the university's own funds.
