This year's main center of the International Festival of Contemporary Art 4+4 Days in Motion will be the heritage-protected Palace U Stýblů (also known as Palace Alfa) located in Wenceslas Square in the very center of Prague. One expansive floor of the otherwise empty building, which is prepared for subsequent reconstruction, will be filled from October 11 to 19 with works from several dozen artists. “This year's common main theme and also the title of the exhibition is the phrase Problem is Here,” say curators Denisa Václavová and Krištof Kintera. During the festival, there will also be the premiere of a new show by the Secondhand Women group, various lectures on current topics, walks around the area with art historians, and concerts by the band Please The Trees with the Elpida choir and Franco-American anarchist chansonnier Theo Hakoly. And there will certainly be a café and a stylish bar.
The 4+4 Days in Motion festival will celebrate its eighteenth birthday this year. In addition to the Palace U Stýblů, the program will take place at Archa Theatre, on the New Stage of the National Theatre, at ORCO – Bubenská 1, at Alfred ve dvoře theatre, at Baráčnická rychtě, and in Studio Alta.
The festival will feature a number of remarkable theatrical productions and choreographies from abroad, which will offer both reflections on current social issues and relaxation and humor,” says dramaturg Pavel Štorek. An extraordinary experience is promised by the historically first guest appearance of an Indian troupe in the festival's history. The Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts will present the choreography AadhaaraChakra: A Dancelogue, offering an exceptional visual spectacle showcasing what seems to be an absurd conflict of perception between traditional and contemporary dance for “Western civilization.” The famous Franco-Austrian collective Superamas will also head to Prague with a multidisciplinary project Theatre, where Renaissance painters humorously encounter 21st-century 3D technology. From Belgium, the Campo theatre will arrive with its latest performance Victor, whose main characters are a thirteen-year-old boy and a professional dancer. Based on the modern Antigone, the audience will experience youth rebellion in present-day Greece firsthand - the documentary performance Alexis, a Greek tragedy will be brought by the renowned Italian troupe Motus.
In addition to foreign guests, this year you can look forward to a flood of local premieres,” adds Pavel Štorek. Besides Secondhand Women, the festival will feature new productions from the VOSTO5 theatre, 420PEOPLE, VerTeDance, Žan Loose, or Lucia Kašiarová with Vanda Hybnerová.
