Ústí nad Labem - The Erben lookout in Ústí nad Labem will be completed in a historical style. It will be similar to the one that stood on a stone base at the end of the 19th century. The local district office of Severní Terasa has prepared two million crowns for the completion. Jiří Brodský, the mayor, said this today to ČTK.

Construction work is expected to begin in the area of the lookout over the city probably in mid-July. The first visitors could climb the lookout tower at the end of September.
Originally, the extension was to be completed last year, but disputes over its appearance delayed the construction. The historical version was financially more demanding than the modern one, so the council initially chose the more modern and cheaper version. The open modern extension was to cost 600,000 crowns, while the historicizing version was two million crowns. However, the Club of Czech Tourists opposed the district leadership, advocating for the historic appearance. A promise of a grant from the city hall then changed the opinion of the district office.
The representatives thus decided on a historicizing stone extension with a wooden roof. The price of the project will be known after the tender for the contractor is completed, which, according to Brodský, should be in mid-May.
The town hall is now awaiting a building permit. Workers are expected to start work on the lookout in mid-July. At the opening at the end of September, the district plans to also present a new flag, which should hang on the renovated lookout.
The lookout tower, which has stood above the city since 1889, originally had a stone lower part. A wooden structure was on top of it. It was knocked down by the wind twice and caught fire once. In 1933, it was restored by local tourists. In honor of their former chairman, Alexander Erben, they named it after him. To this day, only the stone eight-meter lower part remains of the lookout. After the planned completion, the lookout would rise to nearly 15 meters.
