Domažlice - Today, Domažlice has launched a long-prepared and postponed complete reconstruction of the city's indoor swimming pool. The building from the 1970s is at the end of its lifespan. For approximately 180 million crowns, which the city will pay from its budget, the facility, the indoor pools, will be completely repaired, and additional parts for wellness, sports, and relaxation will be added. The repairs should not affect the operation of the pool; the main work will primarily take place in the summer when the pool has a regular shutdown. It is expected to be completed around autumn 2018, said Mayor Miroslav Mach today to ČTK.
"This is a complete renovation of the entire background of the pool hall, including a new roof, thermal insulation, facade, and an extension on the roof for the construction of a four-lane bowling alley and a two-lane bowling alley," the mayor listed. The facility will receive new insulation, heating, electrical installations, and air conditioning, and a fitness center with a saltwater pool, four types of sauna, and a gym will be added. The new extension will have two new pools - one relaxation pool with jets and loungers in 32-degree warm water, and the other pool will be for water fun and will include, among other things, an approximately ninety-meter water slide. In the main pool basin, where lanes for competitive swimming will remain, the depth will be reduced and unified. This will decrease the volume of water, which is more suitable for competitive swimmers and is cheaper for filtration and heating.
This year, approximately 35 million crowns is expected to be invested. Visitors will not notice much for now. Work will begin in the basement and technical facilities and new extensions will be constructed. The reconstruction will also affect the accommodation facility. "Today it has rooms for 40 people and sanitary facilities in the corridor. It will be converted to a hotel type and have an additional floor, so that athletes have accommodation that meets current standards," added Mach.
In recent years, new or renovated pools have also been built for residents of other cities in the region. In Plzeň, however, there is only talk of the necessary overall repair of the pool in Slovany. In recent years, Sušice has built a new indoor pool in Klatovsko, and Kdyně has done the same in Domažlicko. Klatovy added a building with saunas, a pool with a water slide, and other features to its pool two years ago. The pool in Horažďovice in Klatovsko also recently underwent reconstruction.
