Humpolec - Humpolec in the Pelhřimov region wants to announce an architectural competition for the design and use of the Community House and the surrounding buildings. The competition is planned to begin in the autumn. For now, a working group has been established to develop the competition brief. According to the deputy mayor of the city, Petr Machek (SNK - HUMPOLECGO!), it is not yet possible to estimate the costs that the reconstruction will require.

“What is already clear, however, is that the reconstruction of this complex is likely to become one of the most financially demanding investments of the city,” said Machek. It will involve several hundred million.

The city block, the revitalization of which the city is preparing, consists of the Community House and the former weaving school. "Both buildings are very significant for Humpolec, both historically and socially, and their condition requires a more fundamental reconstruction. The potential for their possible connection and the creation of an important socio-cultural hub within the city is being discussed for their intended use. Architects participating in the competition have the opportunity to address both buildings simultaneously, which offers a wider range of possibilities than if each building were addressed separately," said Marcela Průchová, spokesperson for the Humpolec city hall.

The project should also address a possible extension to the side blind gable of the Community House, the use of the school courtyard, and adjacent public spaces. An important part of the brief will also be the interior of the buildings. In mid-August, the competition brief for the architectural competition is expected to be discussed by the city council committee.

The Community House, which has stood on Smetanova Street since 1899, was purchased by the city a year ago from a private owner for more than 28 million crowns. As a socio-cultural institution, the building functioned under the management of associations until the nationalization in the mid-20th century. Subsequently, it housed a cinema. After the opening of a new cinema in the city, the devastated Community House faced demolition. This was halted by changes in social conditions after 1989, when private owners bought the building and partially restored it.

This year's budget for Humpolec, which has about 11,000 inhabitants, is approximately 590 million crowns.
