Duchcov (Teplice region) - More than two dozen volunteers built the first fictional seaport in the Czech Republic over the weekend at the Liptická viewpoint near Duchcov. Architect Martin Kloda from the civic association Moře Klidu, which prepared the Duchcov Marina project in collaboration with the architectural firm Archwerk, told ČTK today. The construction made of spruce wood, with masts anchored by steel cables, involved mainly people from Duchcov, as well as members of Moře Klidu and other volunteers. The marina cost approximately 100,000 CZK, of which 70,000 CZK was provided by a grant from the VIA Foundation, with additional contributions from the town of Duchcov. The main aim of this unusual initiative by a group of enthusiasts is to draw attention to the fact that the restoration of the landscape after brown coal mining is neither complete nor very coordinated. "The goal of our projects is to suggest further possibilities for involving landscape architects or artists in this process," said Kloda. The fictional harbor at the Liptická viewpoint, which was created on rehabilitated land owned by the Severočeské doly company, is meant to evoke a possible inland sea that could flood all the mined areas in the Podkrušnohoří region. The marina is expected to become a sought-after destination for tourists, thereby revitalizing Duchcov and its surroundings. The civic association has a zoning decision for the lightweight wooden structure for ten years, with the possibility of extension if the marina withstands weather conditions. The ceremonial opening of the Duchcov Marina will take place on Architecture Day, October 5, but it is already accessible to the public from its inception. "We want people to enjoy it for the rest of the summer," Kloda said. The harbor is not the first project of Moře Klidu. Two years ago, the association built a lookout tower in the shape of a lighthouse near Strupčice in the Chomutov region. It was created as a decoration for the documentary film by Martin Ryšavý called "Na vodě," which deals with the transformations of the landscape in the Podkrušnohoří region. The film is set to premiere in October at the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava. The lighthouse is a popular spot for tourists.
