Strupčice (Chomutov) - The civic association Sea of Tranquility continues its effort to create a fictional marine landscape from the land after coal mining. After the marina in Duchcov in the Teplice area and the lighthouse in Strupčice in the Chomutov area, a real ship is to be placed at a fictional dock near Litvínov in the Most area. Details were provided by Jan Plíšek from the civic association to ČTK.

The brown coal mines are gradually filling up with water. Since last year, people have been able to swim in Lake Milada near Chabařovice in Ústí, and the opening of Lake Most is being prepared near Most.

"We have nothing against lakes. A good example can be the area of the Lusatian lakes in Germany, which are interconnected. Here, they are still isolated, and furthermore, there are reports of a water shortage. Therefore, the association comes up with the bold idea of connecting the pits throughout the geological deposit area and filling them with water from the Baltic, because it is at least somewhat salty and the Czechs should finally have a sea," described Plíšek.

In the landscape that stretches from Kadaň to Teplice under the Ore Mountains, two constructions have been completed so far. The maritime port at the Liptická lookout in Duchcov opened in September 2014. The width of the pier is 1.5 meters. The construction costs were approximately 100,000 crowns.

People could climb the lighthouse with a walkway in Strupčice for the first time in July 2012. It is six meters tall, the construction took ten days, and the costs amounted to 120,000 crowns. "It always depends on the representatives of the local authorities; if they are enlightened and understand the idea, everything goes well. We now plan another major construction, but I cannot reveal the details yet because we are addressing the land," Plíšek stated.

On this sort of inland sea, two ships could be placed. The association plans to transport the ship from Central Bohemia to Litvínov this year.
