Adolf Loos

The splendid interiors by world-renowned architect Adolf Loos in Pilsen can be viewed by visitors during regular guided tours or at interesting cultural events. By the end of August, the interiors by the most significant architect ever to work in Pilsen will be enlivened by theatrical performances, book launches, slam poetry, an interesting lecture on Loos's school years, or a lecture dedicated to architectural photography.
Almost everyone who enters the exceptional works of Adolf Loos dreams of what it would be like to live in these beautiful and perfectly functional interiors. Spending more time in Loos’s interiors than the duration of a guided tour can easily be accomplished. “We cannot provide accommodation for interested parties, but we invite them to an interesting cultural program. During this, they can settle in the interior that has – like its original owners – a strong story,” revealed Anna Gaierová from the organization Pilsen – TOURISM, which organizes the guided tours and program. The cultural autumn starts in the Kraus family apartment at Bendova 10 on August 23 with a theatrical performance.
“Already in August, the first of several interesting cultural events will take place. Visitors can look forward to the popular theatrical performance Afternoon Tea at the Looses presented by the Poetické divadlo ensemble, slam poetry, a double book launch for Filip Koryta’s Falknov Calling and Martin Reiner’s poetry collection Magical Number 9, or a lecture by the excellent photographer Petr Polák from Studio Petrohrad, who is the author of many photographs taken in Loos's interiors,” stated Gaierová, project manager of Adolf Loos Pilsen. “There will also be a lecture by David Růžička, who will talk about what kind of student Loos was. Listeners may be surprised that the famous architect Loos was not a model student and did not complete his architecture studies,” added Gaierová.
The highlight of the program will be the Pilsen Museum Night, during which the interior of the Hugo Semler family's apartment will be shown in a completely different light. Visitors to the yet-to-be-reconstructed interior will experience an extraordinary audiovisual experience. With the help of mobile phones or special glasses, they will view contemporary works by students from Pilsen's Sutnarka from the Multilab studio through virtual reality against the backdrop of the First Republic interior. The connection between the creations of Adolf Loos and Ladislav Sutnar will be further enhanced by video mapping in the salon accompanied by the "voice" of Adolf Loos.
The meeting of digital and classical art through video mapping and augmented reality originated from cooperation with the Multimédia Multilab studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. The tours will take place between 7 PM and 11 PM every 20 minutes.
In Pilsen, it is currently possible to visit two guided tour routes featuring three interiors, namely the Voglov and Kraus apartments and the Brummel House. In addition to these two tour routes, a new tour of two yet-to-be-reconstructed interiors is also being organized, specifically the interior of Hugo Semler's house at Klatovská 19 and Richard Hirsch's apartment at Plachého 6. These interiors will soon be accessible on Saturdays, August 14 and September 11. Tours are held from 9 AM to 4 PM at pre-set times. Tickets must be reserved in advance.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Tourist Information Center next to the town hall and also online at the Pilsen Ticket. Detailed program and more information can be found at www.adolfloosplzen.cz.
