Brno - The residential complex Erasmus, which is being built by a private investor on Královopolská street in Brno on land owned by Brno University of Technology (VUT), is said to not only serve as student dormitories or for school purposes, but also as private apartments. According to representatives of the city's leadership, this is in violation of the zoning plan, which allows for use only for school purposes. Therefore, the city will investigate the investor's procedure, the company Trykaya, as reported by Brněnský deník in its today's edition.

According to the newspaper, the company plans to rent or sell apartments in the complex to people outside of VUT. "Investors from the Trykaya company are acting in violation of the zoning plan. They want to build something for which they did not receive permission. Therefore, I have submitted a request for a review of the entire matter. The Department of Urban and Building Management of the City of Brno is now dealing with the issue,” said the mayor's deputy Martin Ander (SZ) to the newspaper. A decision should be made in the coming weeks.
The actions of the developer Trykaya are also disliked by representatives of VUT. They disagree with the company starting to offer apartments for sale online, even though it does not have an agreement with the school management on how many apartments its staff will use. "We have a right of first refusal on all apartments in the building. However, we have agreed with the company management to conclude a contract on how many apartments we will actually use. The fact that all of them are available for sale seems unjustified to us,” stated VUT spokesperson Jitka Vanýsková.
However, Trykaya spokesperson Marek Hadra is not aware of any problem. "We have not received any complaints,” the newspaper quoted Hadra, stating that complaints are directed more towards the building authority.
According to Ander, the construction could become a dangerous precedent. "There is plenty of space for residential buildings in Brno. Dormitories for students are already a different matter. Moreover, the entire construction was assessed in both building and zoning procedures according to different criteria. Therefore, the permit is invalid,” believes Ander.
