OFFCITY TRIP
CITY ON RAILWAYS
Sunday, October 2, 2011, meeting at 9:30 AM at the main train station in Pardubice
International Architecture Day falls on October 3. On this occasion, a nationwide festival, Architecture Day, will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011, organized by the Prague-based association Kruh. The offcity project and its implementer, the association Terra Madoda, are also pleased to participate in the celebrations and have prepared for you OFFCITY TRIP 09: City on Railways.
The excursion will focus on the development of the New Town district linked to the establishment of the railway in the mid-19th century. Together with construction historian and offcity member František Václavík, we will delve into the history of the emergence and development of industrial areas in this location, as well as the story of their demise.
After 1945, a new concept for construction around the station was adopted, including a large housing estate and a communication hub, which still significantly influences the urban planning of the entire agglomeration. Therefore, there will also be reflections on the current and future development of the area. The excursion will also include a climb to the telecommunications tower.
Free entry
Organized by the association Terra Madoda in collaboration with the association Kruh as part of the OFFCITY 2011 project. This project is implemented with the support of the statutory city of Pardubice, the Czech Architecture Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
