The demolition of the four-story panel building in H. Brod will begin in two weeks

Havlíčkův Brod - The demolition of the four-story panel building in Havlíčkův Brod will begin in about two weeks. Workers will gradually dismantle the building with 18 apartments located at Smetanova náměstí. Parts of the panels will be shredded, and the concrete rubble will be used as material for construction, said councilor Libor Honzárek to journalists today. The city hall is having the now uninhabited panel building removed because it tarnishes the appearance of the city center. The demolition, which is set to finish in mid-December, will cost 2.8 million crowns.
According to Honzárek, this will likely be the first panel building demolished in Vysočina. It may also be the first panel building in the country to be removed purely for urban planning reasons. The building stands close to the historic Havlíček House. It occupies space between two squares, the historic Havlíčkův and Smetanovo, dominated by socialist panel housing. The last tenants moved out during the summer, and they could choose another municipal apartment.
The demolition will be carried out by the company ŽSD Modřany, which will also bring the recycling line to the city. The contract between them and the city hall is expected to be signed this week. After that, the interior fittings, including kitchen units, windows, and doors, will be removed from the building. The panel house will be demolished using a special excavator, from the roof down to the foundations. The panels will be crushed into smaller pieces and transported to the outskirts of the city for recycling.
The progress of the work must be adapted to the location where the building stands. It is an area where cellars are located beneath. Surrounding roads will be closed due to the demolition from November 14.
After the building is removed, workers will create a sidewalk at the released site connecting to the alley leading from the historic square around the Havlíček House. The remaining area will be temporarily grassed over. The city hall has not yet decided on any other use of this land.
