Brno - Several employees of the municipal company Brněnské komunikace today began removing a group of five stalls in the underpass beneath Brno's main train station. These are the stalls located under the tram stops, which have been operated by the company Pliska for years, but the court ultimately ruled that they are part of the underpass, and therefore, like the underpass, they are the property of the city. The removal was important for the city to be able to reconstruct the underpass. However, the work to improve the area, which has been off-putting to passersby for years, has been postponed by the city for now.

The court decided on ownership in February, and a few days ago the city announced that Pliska decided to transfer the stalls to the city. Thus, it was not necessary to enforce the judgment through execution. However, these are not the last stalls remaining in the underpass, as the city is engaged in identical disputes with two other entities. These disputes were interrupted due to the dispute with Pliska, and the city now expects that both disputes will turn out the same way as the one with Pliska. After that, the underpass could be empty and ready for reconstruction.

The city is also engaged in another dispute with the stall operators regarding compensation for damages, as they have not paid rent to the city for several years.

The underpass under the railway tracks is already empty, since the beginning of last year. Its reconstruction was supposed to be the first to take place this year, but the city had the project documentation reworked to make the construction cheaper. It expects work to start only next year. And when the area under the tram stops should be reconstructed is not yet clear.

The underpass is a place that in recent years residents of Brno have indicated in various surveys as one of the most repulsive places in the city, similar to the area in front of the train station.
