Mikulov (Břeclavsko) - The center of Mikulov, which has been a city heritage zone since 1952, is set to undergo renovations. The cost could be up to one hundred million crowns. A market for regional and agricultural products could be established there, and an amphitheater for cultural events could become part of it, along with a water feature reminiscent of a stream. Mikulov Mayor Rostislav Koštial (ODS) said this to ČTK today. "We have commissioned four architectural studies for the new look of the city center. By the middle of this year, we hope to select the best one together with the public. Then we will try to obtain grants for the project, likely from the EU," added the mayor. The city council began considering changes to the center of Mikulov in connection with the long-planned reconstruction of dilapidated water pipes, sewage systems, and gas lines that run beneath the streets and squares. They contacted architects to help revive the city with their proposals. "We want to host more cultural events there. In the central square, shops should expand onto counters placed in front of the buildings. We want more seating for our citizens and tourists," stated Koštial. According to him, one of the most interesting proposals is to create a replica of a stream in the city center. It should remind people that beneath it flows the Hnánický Creek, which has been carried in pipes for decades.
