Brno - Czech Television today began filming dramatized scenes for a documentary working under the title Villa Tugendhat. Filming took place in the famous Brno villa of the same name, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The scenes were meant to evoke situations from the end of the war and the liberation of Brno, when soldiers of the Red Army stayed in the villa, said Marie Kučerová, head dramaturge of the Centre for Music and Theatre Creation of Czech Television in Brno, today to ČTK. The documentary about the famous villa has been filmed by the Brno studio of Czech Television since last year and will be completed next year. According to Kučerová, Rudolf Chudoba's film has two dimensions. "It has a completely factual documentary dimension, capturing the current unique reconstruction of this world architectural gem during the renovation. The second is a period and personal dimension, the story of the Tugendhat family and the fate of the famous villa in the twentieth century," Kučerová stated. The filmmakers filmed scenes from the liberation of Brno today. "The crew took advantage of the construction process, allowing for such a demanding scene to be realized," Kučerová noted. More scenes will follow in the spring in the already renovated building. These will include scenes from the life of the Tugendhat family, meetings with architect Mies van der Rohe, as well as the wartime years. Villa Tugendhat is one of the jewels of functionalist Brno. It was built according to the plans of the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe on a plot in Brno's Černá Pole from June 1929. The Tugendhat family moved in in December 1930. They only enjoyed the house for eight years. Fearing the Nazis, they emigrated. The villa is set to reopen after renovation next year. Builders discovered several new details during the renovation. The latest find is a part of the original table construction, which was found in the floor of the dining room near the famous makassar wall. A casing made of steel profiles, in which a part of the original table leg has been preserved, was concreted there.
