Cesky Krumlov - The town of Cesky Krumlov has begun repairing the bus station, with costs amounting to 72 million. By November, the new terminal and 100 new parking spaces will be completed. The reconstruction of the bus station building will take place in a separate phase from 2019 to 2020, with costs expected to be 70 to 100 million CZK. This was announced today by city spokesperson Petra Nestávalová and the managing director of the city company Cesko-krumlovský rozvojový fond Miroslav Reitinger. The repair has been discussed in the town for many years. Operations at the station will not be interrupted.
The new transport terminal will have 14 covered bus stops with public lighting, a camera system, and wifi connection. It will also feature 100 parking spots for cars, some of which will be in P+R mode, and there will be spaces for bicycles and motorcycles, along with charging stations for electric vehicles.
"The new transport terminal will cost 72 million crowns, of which 42 million comes from a European Union grant, which has the condition of being spent by the end of 2018," said the spokesperson. It should be completed by this November.
The reconstruction will not affect operations at the station, but it will bring some restrictions for passengers and transport providers. "People will not be able to move around the area as freely as they are used to, because a large part of it will always be occupied by the construction site. It won't be comfortable for passengers that the positions of the stops will change at least twice during those eight months. For transport providers, it means greater discipline in dropping off and picking up buses," said Reitinger, the managing director of the fund under which the station reconstruction falls.
First, it was necessary to cut down trees around the station, some of which will be replaced by new planting. The most commonly cut were birches, which fall into the category of less valuable wood species. According to Reitinger, several promising trees were also felled, and the town will plant new ones in their place.
Thanks to the transformation of the station, new access roads to the center will be created, including crossings to the hospital. The reconstruction of the station is divided into two phases. The first phase will renovate the outdoor terminal, and the second will focus on the building. The project will be launched during the spring. "It will be a new multifunctional building, which will bring much more than just a waiting area for the bus station," said Reitinger.
