Prague - The most sought-after type of property that Czech households plan to acquire in the near future is an apartment. Five percent of households are preparing to buy one, which is two percentage points lower than two years ago. Interest in family houses has remained at a long-term stable level, with about two percent of households currently considering purchasing one. This information comes from an October survey by Factum Invenio, which involved 1,010 citizens of the Czech Republic aged 15 and older.

According to the survey, apartments are primarily sought after by young people under 29 with a total income exceeding 40,000 crowns gross. Those considering acquiring a family house, either through purchase or construction, are mainly individuals aged 30 to 44. The proportion of households that have decided to build their own family house is two percent, while almost two percent are buying or planning to buy a cottage or a weekend house.
A quarter of households have started or will soon start renovations or modernization of their apartments. Slightly fewer, 14 percent of households, are preparing to modernize their family house, and seven percent plan to modify a cottage. The most frequent renovators, regardless of the type of property, are individuals aged 45 to 59.
In apartments, modernization mainly involves painting, window replacements, floor renovations, and layout changes, which include moving or removing partition walls. Over half of households are willing to undertake renovations themselves, while 39 percent will work with specialized companies. According to the survey, the willingness to carry out renovations independently decreases with higher education levels.
One-fifth of households are acquiring or will soon acquire interior furnishings for their apartment. This mainly includes new furniture, including sofas, which 56 percent of households plan to buy within two years, as well as white goods, kitchen units, black goods, tiles, and sanitary ware.
