Česká Skalice (Náchodsko) - Česká Skalice in Náchod is preparing the reconstruction of the area of the Božena Němcová Museum. The city has already commissioned an architectural study and will strive to obtain funding for repairs worth several tens of millions of crowns. Today, the museum opened an exhibition of architectural designs by students from the Technical University of Liberec; the study processed by the city hall will be on display in the fall. Milan Horký, the museum director, said this to ČTK. "The city is interested in renovating the entire museum area; we are waiting for the announcement of the so-called Norwegian grants, from which the city would like to obtain funding," said Horký. The whole project called Cultural and Historical Center of Božena Němcová aims to bring a new exhibition, exhibition halls, and new museum depositories. "We also want to build new facilities for visitors," Horký said. Starting today, the museum is exhibiting architectural studies by graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec, Bohuslav Strejc and Miroslav Němeček, who were tasked with integrating a new building for the Center of Modern Literature into the historical area. The exhibition will be open until August 7. "They developed their studies as diploma theses; it is an interesting perspective on the possible modification of the museum. We will exhibit the study, according to which the museum will be renovated, in September on the occasion of the traditional Jiřinkové celebrations," Horký said. The Božena Němcová Museum is located in the museum area of Malá Skála, which consists of a former inn, a Ursuline convent, and the remnants of a medieval fortress. The main exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of the writer Božena Němcová. In her book Grandma, published in 1855, she captured life in nearby Ratibořice. The castle and the entire area of Grandma's Valley are sought-after tourist destinations in eastern Bohemia. In addition to the Božena Němcová Museum, there is also a Textile Museum located in the area.
