Český Krumlov – Český Krumlov will process project documentation to build a new ice rink. The documentation will be ready by February 2022. After a meeting of the councilors, city spokeswoman Petra Nestávalová said this to ČTK today.
Krumlov aims to build an ice rink in the Chvalšinská area by the end of 2024. The estimated cost is around 150 million crowns, and the city would utilize funding from the National Sports Agency. However, it has not yet managed to apply for it. According to the spokesperson, the agency closed the application process on November 30, about seven months earlier than it announced last December. However, the agency announced that it would launch a new funding project, so Krumlov has not abandoned preparations for the rink. The project documentation will be prepared for the city by the company AS Project CZ for 423,500 Kč.
The National Sports Agency closed the submission of applications for funding for the construction of sports facilities as of November 30. As a result, the city did not manage to submit an application due to some procedural issues. "At the same time, the National Sports Agency states that it will launch a new funding project for the construction and support of sports facilities," Nestávalová said.
The rink, costing 150 million Kč, would be the largest construction project in the city in the last 30 years, said Deputy Mayor Martin Hák (Independents and TOP 09) to the councilors in August. The city, home to about 13,000 people, planned that the funding from the National Sports Agency would cover up to 70 percent of the costs, with just under 50 million coming from its budget. It would take out a loan. Another option is to secure funds from the regional investment fund.
The rink would include new technical facilities and additional cabins for visitors. The stands will accommodate 300 people. It will feature an outdoor playing field, which would operate year-round, serving as an outdoor ice rink in winter. The councilors plan to locate the rink in the Chvalšinská area, where a new sports hall is also envisioned.
The current rink is beyond repair. It was built in the 1930s. Until the end of the 20th century, it was an open ice rink, which had artificial cooling built in the 1970s, spectator bleachers, and in the late 1990s, a steel structure for roofing, the councilors stated in their reasoning to the councilors. According to experts, repair is unrealistic. Demolition would cost at most eight million crowns, according to the Povltavská construction company.
