Liberec - A significant Liberec monument - the former café Nisa, is set to undergo extensive reconstruction. One of the options for utilizing the dominant feature of Soukenné náměstí is a hotel, which is expected to be created in its lower part. The new owner no longer wants a catering kitchen and dining room on the ground floor, according to today's Liberec supplement of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). What the building with 68 apartments and six non-residential spaces will look like will be clear by the end of the year. "A small hotel would only be on the first floor, in my vision it should have higher quality but mid-range prices," said the building's owner Vlastimil Juriga, who acquired the monument at auction last July for 59 million crowns. No decision has yet been made regarding the use of other spaces; according to him, offices, a bar, a gaming room, and a café or pastry shop could be created on the ground floor. The reconstruction costs are estimated at ten to 15 million crowns. According to Juriga, the repair is expected to take about a quarter of a year. The corner building is a significant representative of interwar modern architecture in Liberec, and preservationists value it highly despite numerous later modifications. According to the design by architect Fritz Lehmann, it was built in 1929 by the construction company Pittel and Brausewetter. The nine-story building features a reinforced concrete skeleton clad in granite blocks. The house was conceived as a residential building with a café on the ground floor and studios in the attic.
