The main square in Bruntál will be adorned with a new fountain after approximately 70 years. The city has obtained a grant from the European Union covering half of the costs for the construction of the water feature, which amounts to 2.2 million crowns. The fountain, which will symbolize the river flowing from the nearby Jeseníky Mountains, could grace the square as early as June. Jiří Ondrášek, the spokesperson for the Bruntál town hall, informed ČTK. "The water feature was supposed to complement the central square several times, and the area has been prepared for its installation since the reconstruction in 2004. However, other investments took priority, and the city primarily searched for a suitable grant title," explained the spokesperson. Ultimately, Bruntál, which is a member of the Local Action Group Hrubý Jeseník, managed to secure a grant of 1.1 million crowns from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The designs for the new fountain for Míru Square were created in 2008 by the Ostrava studio OSA project. The winning variant, with the working title River, was recommended to the city by architect Milan Dvořák, who is the author of the reconstruction of the entire square. The motif of the fountain is a flowing mountain river that creates a water surface with a mounted rotating ball. The architects based their design on the concept of Bruntál as a "city between mountains and water," also taking into account the renovated fountain at the nearby Zámecké náměstí. There was a wooden fountain in the main square of Bruntál as early as the 19th century. In 1907, the then-mayor had it replaced with a marble fountain, which adorned the square until 1939. During the war, it was dismantled, and the square has been without a water feature since, which is set to change in June during the celebrations of the City Days.
