Bruntál – The Bruntál City Hall plans to construct a new swimming pool for 156 million crowns. However, the city will only proceed with the project if it receives a grant from the National Sports Agency amounting to 70 percent of eligible costs, which is about 90 million crowns. Jiří Ondrášek, the city spokesperson, stated that if the construction takes place, it will be one of the largest investment projects in the city in the last 30 years.

Ondrášek added that in addition to the construction of the swimming pool, the city plans smaller investments to improve the access road and the adjacent sports facilities, including playgrounds and a retaining wall. The total planned expenditure for the project thus amounts to 170 million crowns.

The city has announced a public tender and is looking for a construction contractor. "These steps open the way for the project's realization and go hand in hand with the building permit, which was issued this January. If financing can be secured, construction is expected to begin in the second half of this year. The construction may then take 12 to 18 months," Ondrášek added.

The city anticipates that, due to the wide range of uses for the new facility and the technologies employed, it will not have to subsidize the operation of the stadium. In contrast, the operation of the current ice rink requires the city to contribute approximately 2.5 million crowns from the budget each year.
