Brno

The construction of the parking garage on Kopečná Street is financed by a private company. It will offer parking for 75 cars. The architect of the building, Michal Palaščák, placed a panoramic café on the roof.
Brno - The Brno city council approved a list of parking garages for which the city should invest or strive for their construction in the future. If the projects are realized, the center would gain several thousand new parking spaces. The costs for the construction of the buildings are estimated by the authors of the list to be hundreds of millions of crowns. The investor is expected to be the city, but private companies may also participate, said the mayor's deputy Oliver Pospíšil (CSSD) to journalists today.
Brno is currently having a parking general plan developed. According to Pospíšila, the list of planned parking garages could still be developed before the general plan was created because it largely derives from the territorial plan. There are no major surprises expected in the foreseeable future.
The construction of the parking garage near the Janáček Theatre is the furthest along, with a territorial decision already issued for it. However, the city has not yet found the desired investor. The deputy said the efforts will not be given up.
The first parking garage he would like to have completed is on Panenská Street next to the New Town Hall, but the office has not yet issued a territorial decision there. The city aimed to build the garage as a shareholder of the company Brno Parking, which it co-founded six years ago. However, the company has not managed to obtain a territorial decision during its existence. According to city representatives, communication there was stalled. Therefore, two scenarios are currently in play for how to deal with the company.
Either the city will acquire 51 percent and as the majority owner will be able to handle the processed territorial documentation or it will sell its shares, said Mayor Roman Onderka (CSSD) today. "If I were to buy shares in Brno Parking, the price would not be higher than the price of the project," he stated. He ruled out the possibility that the city would buy shares in an empty company without reason that it does not need.
For road management, the city has its own company, Brněnské komunikace, and recently the council expanded its powers precisely to include tasks related to parking organization.
