Brno – Brno will renovate three buildings that will house dozens of social apartments. This was stated in a press release by the Deputy Mayor Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD). The costs will reach nearly 120 million crowns, with almost 30 million covered by a grant from the European Union.

The buildings are located on Podnásepní, Mostecká, and Plynárenská streets. Work is already underway on Podnásepní and Mostecká, while work on Plynárenská will begin in the middle of the year and will last for a year. "The apartments will then serve social purposes. They will be for socially disadvantaged people, such as seniors, persons with disabilities, families from shelters, but also for homeless people," stated Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

A complete renovation, including an attic conversion, will take place on Podnásepní. The total costs amount to 44 million crowns, with the grant expected to cover 12 million. "Once completed, there should be 22 apartments in the building, of which ten will be used as social apartments with the support of social workers,” said Pospíšil. According to Deputy Mayor Robert Kerndl (ODS), the remaining 12 apartments will serve young families as starter apartments.

On Mostecká Street, the number of apartments will increase from 12 to 20. "The new apartments will range in size from 1+kk to 3+kk. A two-story building will be created in the courtyard, and the original building will have an extension. Eight apartments are planned to have support from social workers, five apartments will be without support, two will be designated for persons with disabilities, and five apartments will be starter apartments," said Pospíšil. The costs are 42 million crowns, with the grant covering seven million.

The renovation of the building and the attic conversion on Plynárenská will cost 32 million, with the grant being eight million. The building will have 15 apartments, of which seven will have social services, three will be social apartments without the support of workers, and five apartments will be for persons with disabilities.

Brno owns nearly 30,000 apartments. However, most are managed by districts, of which there are 29. More than 50 apartments are starter apartments for young families. There are around 200 social apartments.
