Brno - The gap between Vojtova, Grmelova, and Havlenova streets near the center of Brno is expected to begin development next year. The city is planning a building with 73 starter apartments and a care home with 43 apartments. It will also include public spaces, and a park is part of the project. The city estimates an investment of 280 million crowns, spokesperson Zuzana Gregorová told ČTK.
In a rectangular area of 16,000 m², there have never been permanent structures; the last occupant was a trucking company that overloaded the area with large vehicles. Surrounding the site are residential buildings, the Moravian Slavia stadium, and also former garages of the public transport company Grmelova. According to the designer, the new buildings will respect the surrounding architecture.
In addition to starter apartments and a care home, there will also be a headquarters for the care service, a branch of the Jiří Mahen Library, a café, a cultural and educational center, and public restrooms. The project will also include 160 parking spaces.
"The design of both buildings will reflect the atmosphere of the 19th-century tenement houses built in the Empire style. The balconies will be oriented towards the courtyard,” states the document assessing the impact of the construction on the environment. The entire block of buildings will be shifted further east along Havlenova Street so that both existing and new buildings receive adequate light. The planned park will have over 100 trees and nearly 2000 shrubs, with a lawn area of 2000 m².
The city plans for the construction to be completed by the end of 2016. The investment includes not only the construction itself but also archaeological surveys and project preparation.
