Brno, April 10 (CTK) - Builders from the Technical University are exhibiting 40 models and 70 images of interesting bridges in Brno. The bridge models, which are valuable for their construction, building materials, or decorations, can be seen at the Moravian Provincial Library. The exhibition is also intended for blind and visually impaired visitors, who can touch the models, said the author of the exhibition, Dušan Josef.

According to him, there are several architecturally unique bridges in Brno and its surroundings. "When I was told that Brno has to hide from Prague and that it is pointless to promote bridges here, I stood against it because there is a beautiful new bridge behind the university hospital on Kamenice Street in Bohunice, which has a café inside, something that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the Czech lands," said Josef.
A unique 60-meter long bridge is also said to be located on Petra Křivky Street in Brno. "It consists of 16 inclined elliptical steel structures," he said. According to him, the eighty-meter wooden bridge to Veveří Castle near Brno, which is a replica of the former bridge from so-called Brno Venice, also has exceptional value. It was located near today's Dornych Street.
Brno is also characterized by glass walkways, which connect buildings. They can be found, for instance, in the area of the Faculty of Civil Engineering or at the Brno Exhibition Center. "In a lovely spiral, they connect the pavilions so that visitors can walk through the exhibition center without getting wet," said Josef. The buildings are said to stand out especially in night lighting.
The models were created over the past nearly 30 years at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Brno University of Technology. Students partly created them as seminar projects, and many of the models are said to be donations. "The exhibition aims to promote bridge construction and facilitate the recruitment of students," said Josef.
The exhibition of models and images of bridges will last at the Moravian Provincial Library until April 24. After that, interested parties can come to see them in the faculty premises on Žižkova Street in Brno, according to Josef.
