Brno - Brno will receive land from Masaryk University in the campus under the city roads. This was approved today by the city councilors. In return, the city will provide the university with land, for example, at náměstí Míru, in Bohunice, or Pisárky, where the university has buildings in exchange. The university will pay an additional 14 million crowns, said Róbert Čuma (Pirates), the councilor for property in Brno. Additionally, the city will purchase the observatory on Kraví hora from the university for four million crowns, which will serve the observatory and astronomers.
Talks about the exchange between the city and the university have been ongoing since last year. The university was originally interested in the White House in the city center, where, for example, doctors are located. It wanted to establish a computer science institute there. "However, the university withdrew from this plan, so we exchanged it for other land. Then, another interested party expressed interest in purchasing the White House, offering a price set by an expert appraisal of over one hundred million crowns. It's an attractive property in the center, so we would prefer to go through a tender process," Čuma stated.
Through the exchange, the city will acquire land from the university where Brno roads are located in the university campus. In turn, the university will receive land from the city under the university dormitories at náměstí Míru, land around the law faculty, or additional land under university buildings in Bohunice and Pisárky. The university will pay an additional 14 million crowns to the city for this. "The estimated price for the city’s land was 40 million, while the university's land was almost 26 million," Čuma noted.
Moreover, the city will purchase the observatory on Kraví hora from the university for four million crowns. "It will continue to serve astronomical purposes, both for educational projects led by observatory staff and for professional activities, such as observing the night sky with the local astronomical equipment," Čuma said.
