Brno - The Brno city hall is selling another expensive city property, a house in the middle of Mendlovo Square. The minimum price is 10.9 million crowns, and the house will go to the interested party with the highest offer. However, the property is not in good condition, as no investment has been made in it for the last ten years. The city has also unsuccessfully tried to sell the Jalta building at Dominican Square and the former infant institution. So far, no serious interested party for the expensive properties has been found, reported today the mayor's assistant Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD).

Recently, the city hall had to invest about one million crowns in the Mendlovo Square house due to structural reinforcement. "The house is empty except for one tenant on the ground floor. For the last ten years, no one knew what to do with it, so the city hall did not invest in it," said Pospíšil.
The Brno city hall acquired the house from the state through a gratuitous transfer, which limited its handling of it. Additionally, there were past considerations for the reconstruction of Mendlovo Square, during which the house would most likely be demolished. "The price corresponds to the state of the property," Pospíšil pointed out.
Brno is also attempting to sell other properties that are not in good condition. For example, for the former infant institution in a pre-war villa opposite the exhibition center, it wants 65 million crowns. In three rounds of the tender process, no interested party has been found, even though the city hall reduced the price from the original 78 million crowns. "It is now on the city's permanent offer and we are waiting for a serious interested party," said the assistant.
Similarly, the building with the Jalta passage at Dominican Square is in the same situation. The city bought the building at a high price and now wants at least 100 million crowns for it. It has been offered unsuccessfully for the third year. "From time to time, someone comes to inspect the property, but no one wants to buy it," stated Pospíšil. Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) previously said that it is difficult to sell expensive property in the current situation. The city hall needs money, as Brno's budget for next year is approximately a billion lower than this year's.
