Brno - The city hall of Brno will repair the facade and replace technologies in the Janáček Theatre for 55 million crowns. The facade is in a state of emergency and could be dangerous for citizens, said the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek (ANO) to reporters today. According to him, work could begin during the summer holidays. It will not affect the operation of the theatre. In the coming years, the city plans to replace the internal systems of the building. This year's reconstruction aims to address the most pressing issues. "The individual anchors no longer hold the facade as they should. There is a risk of collapse, which is dangerous," emphasized Mrázek. Therefore, the city hall has opted for the fastest possible solution to the emergency state. "The investment project is in the final stages of design work. In March, we will launch a tender, and if everything goes smoothly, the work will begin during the holidays," added Mrázek. The city will also replace the batteries. "The batteries are a source of energy in case of a power outage. Thanks to them, if there is a malfunction, the performance would not have to be interrupted, but could continue smoothly," noted the deputy. The final aspect of this year's reconstruction will affect the rigging for individual props. "These are relatively sensitive electronic devices that have a certain load capacity. It is now at 50 percent of the weight that these rigs should support," said Mrázek. "An amount of 80 million crowns was allocated for this year's reconstruction, but we will not exhaust it. We estimate the costs at 55 million, and therefore we will use the remainder for further repairs of the theatre. After discussion with Deputy Matěj Hollan, we concluded that it would be good not to fragment the individual renovations," added Mrázek. Therefore, in the coming years, the theatre will undergo renovations of the internal systems. "This concerns sewage, electricity, water supplies, and air conditioning. However, it cannot be done while in operation, and therefore we are considering that part of the next seasons will have Janáček Theatre hosting somewhere else," Mrázek added. Janáček Theatre in Brno is part of the National Theatre Brno. The building was created in the 1960s.
