Brno - The Central Building Authority in Brno has 13 vacant positions six months after opening; however, it is staffed at 91 percent. There is a particular shortage of construction technicians. The regional building authority, which had to be established due to the unification of Brno's offices, is still seeking about 25 clerks. A total of 75 people are supposed to work there. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Brno magistrate, Filip Poňuchálek, and Martina Žídková from the press department of the regional government.

In July, all construction offices from the city districts were relocated to the central building authority on Orlí Street for Brno-střed. In the summer, all managerial and administrative positions were filled, and the office is gradually hiring more people. "There is primarily a shortage of construction technicians. It is not easy to find suitable candidates for these positions," Poňuchálek stated.

The operation of the new office was most significantly affected by the digitalization of the building process, which builders and officials across the country have struggled with since its launch last summer. In October, the government decided to issue a new contract for the system while simultaneously allowing the temporary use of the original systems. "The situation is slowly and gradually improving. We welcome the possibility of working again in the old system, which colleagues are accustomed to and know how to operate. However, it is still necessary to take into account that we have a large number of applications to process according to the old building law. Several thousand were submitted by June 30, 2024," said Poňuchálek.

After the centralization of offices from the city districts, the regional office became the appellate authority for Brno. The regional building authority has filled the leading and assistant positions and 40 out of about 65 clerk positions. "We are negotiating two more hires in March and April," Žídková mentioned. The region offers a recruitment bonus of 81,000 crowns. "Candidates are taking advantage of this opportunity. We have now signed eight contracts with the bonus, and two more are in preparation," she noted. According to her, the office is fully operational, but due to the shortage of employees, there are greater demands on the existing clerks. The region does not want to estimate when full staff levels can be expected.
