Prague - Bílko's villa on Mickiewicz Street in Prague is set to undergo repairs. The City Gallery has now announced a selection process for the development of an architectural design and project. The entire building and garden will be reconstructed, City Council member Milan Richter (ODS) informed ČTK today. The villa, built in 1911, has essentially been preserved in its original state to this day. "Years ago, only the copper roof covering was restored and insulation was added. The attic was renovated, and the boiler room was modernized. However, the building requires rehabilitation and repairs to individual architectural parts and elements,” Richter stated. It is also necessary to repair the electrical wiring, air conditioning, and ventilation, he added. According to the council member, the main modifications inside the villa should take place in the winter. A new exhibition is expected to open next spring, Richter said. The selected applicant will also be responsible for assessing the structure's stability and compiling a list of preserved historical elements and constructions. They will be tasked with proposing how to unify the plots around the villa, including landscaping and fence repairs. The villa with the studio was built according to the design of František Bílko (1872-1941), one of the most prominent representatives of the expressive interpretation of Art Nouveau symbolism. The building has been owned by the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague since 1963.
