Písek - A new swimming pool in Písek will be constructed in the area below the forestry school. The facility, whose construction will cost approximately 200 million crowns, is set to begin in 2017. The city council will assign the conditions for the architectural competition for the construction in February. The pool should start operating by the end of the current electoral term. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Josef Knot (TOP 09).
"That is the expectation. But it obviously also depends on whether everything goes smoothly and, for example, after the announcement of the competition results for the contractor, unsuccessful bidders do not appeal. Such a case could then delay the entire implementation by up to a year," Knot said.
The new pool will be 25 meters long and will have eight lanes. In the area, people will also find a smaller teaching pool, a relaxation pool, wellness facilities, and an outdoor area with a water surface of up to 300 m². The city chose the location for the construction from three options. Knot mentioned that he also liked the possibility of the pool being located in the Žižkov Barracks area. "But there is a problem with ownership relations. As for the location below the forestry school, the land there belongs to the city of Písek," said the deputy mayor.
The construction of the new facility was originally supposed to start two years ago, but residents decided in a binding referendum in January 2013 that they did not want the pool in the location originally selected by the city hall. It was very close to the historical center and, according to most participants in the referendum, such a location was unsuitable. Písek currently still operates an indoor swimming facility that is approximately 30 years old.
