Zlín – The architecture of Zlín is introduced by the new Zlín Architectural Manual (ZAM). It is a professional popularization database of architectural and artistic objects, groups of buildings, and public spaces created between 1894 and 2018, stated Tomáš Melzer, spokesperson for the Zlín city hall, in a press release today.

"The database consists of texts, archival plans, and photographs as well as current photo documentation. Some entries are supplemented with period materials that have not yet been published. In the future, the routes should also be connected with orientation signs in public spaces," said the spokesperson. The database is also expanded by professional texts highlighting events or phenomena that have influenced not only the architectural but also the social and historical development of the city, which is especially known for its functionalist architecture.

Last year, five thematic routes were prepared that represent the transformation of Zlín from a small farming town to a modern city connected with the development of the Baťa company as well as the development from the end of World War II to the present day.

Attention is focused not only on architecturally valuable objects but also on the management principles of the Baťa company and the methods of education and upbringing. The routes are focused, for example, on the city center or the architectural development of the factory area. "A total of 90 entries have been processed, among which are also included the biographies of the most important architects and builders," stated the spokesperson.

The database is intended for the city's residents as well as tourists, and those interested in architecture, urbanism, and the modern history of cities. A part of the ZAM project is also a complementary program of guided tours of the city called Meet Zlín! The main creator of the project is the association aArchitektura.
