The summer school Tune Your Waiting Room will, unlike previous years of summer schools, be held in Czech and will also offer participants a distance learning option. The theme that participants will explore under the guidance of experienced architects Jerry Koza and Jakub Kopecký is the connection between architecture and health. Using the specific example of the waiting room of the General University Hospital in Prague, participants will try out ways to improve these often-overlooked spaces.
July 27 – August 7, 2020
The summer school Tune Your Waiting Room combines the theme of architecture with the theme of health, which is particularly vital this year. Its organizers – architects Jerry Koza and Jakub Kopecký – have chosen a relatively unexplored sub-theme of waiting rooms – often neglected places where the world of healthcare meets the world of us, the patients. During the summer school, participants will design a real waiting room, thereby transforming forgotten and often unfriendly spaces for the better. The summer school will also include several lectures by inspiring popularizers of both connected themes, including physician Tomáš Šebek and A1 Architects, as well as excursions to interesting healthcare facilities (Dr. Pírek Clinic in Mladá Boleslav or the Hygiene Museum in Dresden). The final outcome of the two-week summer school will be a project for the renovation of a specific waiting room in the General University Hospital in Prague, accompanied by a manual for other interested healthcare facilities that would also like to transform their waiting rooms. The final project is expected to be implemented based on a crowdfunding campaign on the platform Donio.cz.
