It's high time we returned to nature what we have taken from it and began to value natural resources. This will help not only her but also our immediate surroundings. The first swallow is here; the LIKO-NOE building proudly stands in the premises of the Czech family company LIKO-S, a.s. The principle of natural thermal stabilization has taken real shape.
For this reason, the company's management decided on a risky project of global significance. To build a development center that will be a symbol of natural thermal stabilization. "This means it will only use energy obtained from natural sources, whether it be solar radiation or coolness from underground. However, it will do without special machinery," says Lukáš Kovařík, the technical director of the ENERGY division of LIKO-S, a.s. The challenge attracted the notable Brno architect Zdeněk Fránek, who materialized the idea of the ark of the future on paper. "In my career so far, I have brought many buildings to life, but I have never conceived a project that relies on the life of plants," admits the architect.
The construction of the LIKO-NOE development center began with a ceremonial groundbreaking on April 13. The vision was clear but also bold. To complete the construction 27 days later. "The main building was conceived as a wooden structure, to which we attached acoustic chambers and climate chambers that will serve for further development and measurement of products and materials from LIKO-S, a.s.," says Lukáš Kovařík.
The project's goal is to highlight particularly the waste of water, which is unnaturally drained from the site of impact with no use at all. However, LIKO-NOE will independently work with water thanks to a special root treatment plant and purification through a wetland facade.
The building's outer shell will also be naturally stabilized by green facades, which will provide space for growing pumpkins, tomatoes, and more. "We managed to complete the construction worth 15 million Czech crowns according to the planned schedule. In the coming weeks, we will wait for the growth of the vegetation that is part of the green facade," added Kovařík.
An important role in thermal stabilization is also played by the retention pond, which is primarily a source of natural water while also enhancing the overall visual effect of the ark. "LIKO-NOE directly refers to the well-known biblical story of Noah's Ark. Our project was created for a similar purpose. We want to return to nature what we take from it; we want to save it for future generations because we realize its value," explains Musil.
