Living in the city center with minimal operating costs on one side, thoughtfully and stylishly furnished apartment on the other. The new project of the architectural studio Adam Rujbr Architects called Living showroom demonstrates that these two sides do not necessarily have to be in opposition and was opened in Brno on an area of 21 m².

"Living showroom is a showroom and temporary housing in one. The space is intended to serve as 'bed & breakfast' accommodation for anyone interested in quality and modern architecture. It will also serve as a place for business meetings and presentations for our customers and a place to showcase our partners - suppliers of apartment furnishings," said the author of the new apartment, architect Adam Rujbr, introducing its features.

The miniature but fully equipped apartment, with a layout of 21 m², was created in the former laundry room in the attic of a tenement house located in Lidická street, opposite Lužánky park in the city center. The space was previously unused and served as a storage area. "We base the concept of Living showroom on very energy-efficient operation, the use of renewable resources, self-sufficiency, and modern design. The apartment is divided into three zones corresponding to common human activities - sleep, work and rest, cooking, and personal hygiene. We spatially dimensioned these zones in relation to the time that the mentioned activities occupy. All this on the limited area we had available. During the implementation, we even created a tiny space that can be used as a children's room or a guest room," Rujbr described the apartment.

In the limited space, it was necessary to think about every detail. For example, the siphon in the cabinet under the sink in the bathroom is recessed into the wall to avoid taking up internal space in the cabinet. The shower, separated from the hallway by milk glass, also serves as lighting for the corridor. The table is foldable and the chair is height-adjustable so that the table can serve both dining and working functions.

The project also serves as an example of how to reclaim unused spaces in urban centers and their surroundings. This is appreciated by other professionals in the field of architecture. "I personally evaluate the project as very commendable and significant, not only from a business perspective. Living showroom suitably combines answers to many pressing questions of contemporary life - how to be original, ecological, economical, and cost-effective, satisfy one's aesthetic requirements - and still not feel restricted and limited by these factors. Spaces and resources are dwindling, and the inspiration to make better and more joyful use of what is already available will certainly be welcomed not only by young people. And the opportunity to try everything first-hand and with all the senses will, I believe, be highly valued by all," stated Petr Ivanov, the director of the Architecture Week Prague festival, for example.

Adam Rujbr hopes that the project will attract the attention of professionals from the fields of architecture and design, as well as laypeople who are planning a renovation of their own housing. "An important target group is also travelers who seek accommodation with a concept and original idea," Rujbr says.
