Vienna – Gustav Peichl, one of the most prominent architects of post-war Austria, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. This was reported today by the APA agency. In his youth, Peichl was briefly connected to Moravská Třebová, where he attended a boys' gymnasium and worked as a draftsman at the local building authority.
Peichl's designs, characterized by a simple style, functionalist and constructivist approaches, visible concrete, and elements in the shape of pyramids or cones, were primarily realized in Austria and Germany. In Austria, he was responsible for the construction of the studies for the television and radio company ORF, and in Germany, for the Federal Republic of Germany Exhibition Hall (Bundeskunsthalle) in Bonn.
In addition to his design work, Peichl was also known as a prominent cartoonist. Under the pseudonym Ironimus, he contributed to the newspapers Die Presse and Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Thanks to exhibitions, the Czech public has been able to get acquainted with Peichl's work in the past. He presented his projects at Prague Castle at the end of the 1990s.
