Estudio Barozzi Veiga

In the middle of last week, the results of the competition for the new concert hall in Polish Szczecin were announced. The first prize was awarded by the jury to the Barcelona office estudio barozzi veiga. The second place was taken by the studio NOW Biuro Architektoniczne from Łódź, and third place went to the local STUDIO A4 Spólka Projektowa. The jury described the winning design as “a temple of music, which will become a new symbol of the city and lay the groundwork for new architecture in Szczecin.” The new concert hall is to be built on the site of the concert house that was bombed during World War II. The design features a rectangular floor plan divided into many slender volumes crowned with pointed roofs. During the evening, when the building will be most used, the translucent facade will glow into the surroundings. With the concept of a bundle of vertical volumes in their design, the architects refer to the neighboring old town development and also to the city's strong port and industrial tradition. Inside the building, in addition to the concert hall, a spacious foyer with exposed concrete surfaces is also intended. Link>
