Rome - The gilded bronze doors, which the famous Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti once called "the gate to paradise," will be on display again in Florence. This will happen after 27 years during which they were restored not only due to the accumulation of centuries and environmental pollution but also vandalism, AP agency reports today. The doors, created by Lorenzo Ghiberti at the beginning of the 15th century, will not return to their original location at the Florence Cathedral, also known as the Baptistery of the Florentine Duke. Instead, they will be on display at the local museum starting in September - the reason is to prevent further possible damage. The eight-ton doors will be located in the interior of the Museo dell'Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, said Italian Culture Minister Lorenzo Ornaghi. Ghiberti worked on the doors for 21 years and depicted scenes from the life of Jesus Christ on most of the 28 panels. Currently, two more sets of doors from the baptistery are in the hands of restorers. They too will be placed in the museum after the repairs are completed.
