Tokyo - In less than a year, the highest television transmitter in the world, the so-called Tokyo Sky Tree, will open to the public in the Japanese capital. This was announced by the AFP agency, citing the construction investor, according to whom the tower will become a new symbol of Japan’s recovery after the devastating earthquake in March.
The highest freestanding television tower will welcome its first visitors on May 22 of next year. It will surpass the current tallest structure of its kind, the 600-meter tall Canton Tower in China, by 34 meters.
Currently, the tallest television transmitter on the Japanese islands is the Tokyo Tower, a 333-meter-high building that was built in 1958 and became a symbol of the country's post-war recovery.
The Tokyo Sky Tree, which already dominates the Japanese metropolis, will host a number of transmitters for television stations serving the large Tokyo agglomeration. It will take over the mantle from the Tokyo Tower, whose designers were inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The tower, named the Tokyo Sky Tree, has a triangular base and its profile is clearly inspired by a long samurai sword. The future height of the building is also symbolic - the numbers 634 pronounced in Japanese evoke the name of a great warrior.
The lighting will also carry the value of cultural, historical, and geographical symbols.
The Tokyo "tree" is expected to attract visitors from around the world and contribute to making the Japanese metropolis regarded as an environmentally friendly city. The building will not have any offices or apartments, but will be equipped with two observation platforms at 350 and 450 meters.
The area around the building will also not be neglected, as it will be completely redeveloped into a new tourist and commercial center intended for potential historical events. The tower will rise above an eccentric neighborhood of Tokyo, which currently lacks dynamism, but property prices there are already soaring almost to the height of the unfinished transmitter.
