Zagreb - Lovers of Croatia can start spending their vacation in this country on their own island. A total of at least two dozen islands and islets in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea are now for sale, either as a whole or in parts. The latest addition to real estate listings is half of the island of Piskera in the Kornati archipelago, which is being offered for ten million euros (about 250 million CZK). This was reported by the newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, published in Split. Half of the island covers an area of 586,000 square meters and has two houses on it. However, the new owner cannot build any further properties on Piskera, as the entire area is part of a nature reserve with a ban on further construction. Real estate agents also have other islands for sale, some of which are more suitable for lovers of Robinson Crusoe-style vacations, as they lack access to drinking water and habitable structures. A portion of one such deserted islet is being offered at a relatively favorable price of 320,000 euros (about eight million CZK), and the real estate agent tempts buyers with the promise that the location is ideal for olive cultivation. There is much greater interest in land on islands that already have some infrastructure. For example, in the north near the resort of Opatija, islands are being sold for prices around ten million euros. There is a high demand for them, particularly among Russian oligarchs, according to the media. The government has the right of first refusal on all Croatian islands, but it rarely exercises this right due to a lack of funds in the state treasury for purchasing islands.
