In October of this year, a large residential block was completed in the Dutch city of Groningen by the Berlin office of Müller Reimann Architekten. The apartment building, with a usable area of over 28,000 m², is part of the new urban district Europapark emerging in the south of the city according to the urban plan by Wiel Arets. The new building includes residential and office units of various sizes and typologies. The connecting element of the entire complex is the elongated inner courtyard with planted greenery and a uniform facade covered with light bricks. The project consciously creates a contrast to the fragmented residential development to the east. Its size and presence establish the backbone of the new urban district. In addition to variously sized apartments, the complex also contains maisonettes, terraced houses, and rentable office spaces. The slightly staggered volume increases stepwise towards the expressway. The division of the facade clearly reflects the different functional uses of the building as well as the division of individual apartments. The project was gradually developed in several phases, with total costs amounting to 30 million Euros.
