On the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Yellow House in Flims, an exhibition titled “Dado – built and inhabited by Rudolf Olgiati and Valerio Olgiati” will be opened on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 5 PM. Along with the exhibition, a one-hundred-page catalog “Dado” will be presented, published by the Basel-based publisher Birkhäuser, following the first sold-out edition of “The Architecture of Rudolf Olgiati” published at ETH Zurich in 1977. The word “Dado” in Romansh means “countryside – outer edge of the village center.” In the Flims “Dado,” there is also the homestead of the Olgiati family, which was acquired by Rudolf Olgiati in 1931, where he tried to apply his architectural views and ideas throughout his life. Today, Valerio Olgiati lives in his father's house, where he built an architectural studio a few years ago on the site of the former barn.
The exhibition documents the life and work of both architects through the specific case of a residential house and studio, reflecting the changes that have occurred here over the past nearly eighty years.
This extraordinary portrait not only documents the relationship between father and son but also the imprint of two generations and their architectural and aesthetic understanding.
The exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Sunday from 2 PM to 6 PM and will last until April 11, 2010.
