The Galician studio Vier Arquitectos completed a family house in the eastern suburbs of La Coruña last year. The house is positioned on the southwest slope above Miño beach at the mouth of the Mandeo River. The unique view was a determining factor in the design of a house for a lifetime. In addition to social aspects, the house is also expected to offer comfort, safety, and a sense of identity. The resulting house is flexible, and its rooms can easily adapt to the current and future needs of its residents. A significant part of the property consists of an adjacent garden with a pool, as well as natural light flowing into the living areas. The house is conceived as a dialogue between two opposing forms. The result is a lightweight concrete frame with the living area and a massive three-story box clad in cedar boards placed behind it. The same trees also grow in the garden. Memories from childhood and adolescence in the villa should be indelibly linked to light, sand, the sea, the landscape, games, and architecture.
