The Rotterdam office of MVRDV presented its project for a luxury holiday resort in Montenegro. The project by the Adriatic Sea resembles an artificial mountain pierced by a series of small caves with views of the coastline. The project, titled "Galje," is set to be built near the coastal city of Budva, often compared to "the Montenegrin Monaco." Construction is expected to begin as soon as possible, as the opening of the hybrid mega-complex is scheduled to take place in less than two years. The land is located on an untouched coastline approximately two kilometers from the Sveti Stefan peninsula. MVRDV has decided to hide the entire residential and hotel complex under a green cover of forests and meadows, thus choosing to imitate a piece of the Montenegrin coast and connect the "hotel mountain" with the surrounding landscape. Residents of the excavated apartments will be able to gaze directly at the sea coastline through semicircular windows of various sizes and from circular terraces. The "Galje" project is expected to include 115 apartments, 87 hotel rooms, a restaurant, a swimming pool, parking, and a number of shops. MVRDV describes its ecological project as "an exclusive place in Montenegro where you can stay completely unnoticed."
