Rio de Janeiro - A giant statue representing the head of a fourteen-year-old girl has become a new landmark and attraction on the famous Botafogo beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The white, 12-meter-high statue made of resin and marble dust is the latest work by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, who took four months to create it, reported BBC News. The statue titled Olhar nos meus sonhos (To See My Dreams) depicts a girl with her eyes closed. Plensa stated that its intention is "to encourage people to dream." It will be exhibited on the beach for the next two months as part of a public exhibition of artworks titled Additional Ideas for Rio. The sculptor, born in 1955 in Barcelona, is known for creating large objects intended for public spaces. His work titled Echo, displayed in New York's Madison Square Park, depicts the head of a nine-year-old girl immersed in thought. In 2009, during the Czech presidency of the EU, Plensa exhibited one of his sculptures in Prague as well. His five-meter-tall and nearly 3000-kilogram sculpture, laser-cut from brushed steel, was named WE. The artist composed it from letters and symbols originating from a total of eight different countries and cultures.
