The Helsinki family decided to renovate their summer house on the coast of Lepäinen Island in Uusikaupunki to better meet the living needs of the early 21st century. It was a return to family roots and the landscape of western Finland, intimately known from childhood. The plot is situated on the eastern coast of the island. At the southern edge of the plot, there is a narrow rocky peninsula with a stunning view of the sea.
The wooden houses are positioned to create a rich spatial experience together with the surrounding landscape and towering pine trees. The architecture is intentionally simple, referencing Finnish building traditions.
The access road to the main house winds around old pines directly to the open living space, which is divided into several smaller areas. The gabled roof unifies all the structures into one entity. The bedroom is located at the southern end of the house, while the smaller children's rooms are found in the northern part. A small service building completes the entrance courtyard at the northern edge of the plot.
