Košice - The Gothic Cathedral of St. Elizabeth in Košice has once again shone in all its glory after several months of reconstruction in the city center. The Košice City Hall invested nearly 21 million Slovak korunas into the repair of the pavement and new lighting for the cathedral in the historical core of the eastern Slovak metropolis, which is five million more than the original plan anticipated. According to the spokesperson for the mayor of the city, Jana Geročová, the reconstruction was particularly complicated by the intricate archaeological survey, as well as the demanding nature of the work. The reconstruction lasted from mid-May. "In order for the residents and visitors of the city to admire the beauty of the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth even after dark, the installation of lighting on its northern and western façades was part of the construction," said Tibor Ičo from the Košice City Hall to ČTK. He added that the lighting of the cathedral highlights architectural details even on the northern façade, which is in the shade all day. "The lighting of the southern and eastern sides of the cathedral, as well as the nearby Chapel of St. Michael, will be part of the next planned construction," Ičo added.
