The Vienna Center for Architecture AzW is looking for a new director. Its founder and current director Dietmar Steiner (*1951) is leaving.
From a small and the only museum of architecture in Austria, it has become a leading international center and platform in the field of architecture since 1993. The main focus is on the 20th and 21st centuries. AzW is engaged in preparing programs on architecture, urban development, and public space, alongside exhibitions, conferences, lectures, guided tours, and educational programs. Professionals and the public utilize the library as well as the database of buildings and the ever-expanding dictionary of architects. The architecture collections of AzW contain works by key protagonists of contemporary architectural production. The new director will thus lead an internationally anchored institution that is one of the most active in the world.
The central task of the director is to lead and modernly develop an internationally established center and museum of architecture. The program director leads AzW together with the commercial director. AzW offers a permanent employment contract. The salary starts at 90,000 EUR gross per year. Final salary conditions will be determined according to qualifications and experience. One of the prerequisites is perfect knowledge of the German language.
Selection of Candidates
1st Round The deadline for applications is September 15, 2015. Applicants must submit a CV and a cover letter, including their expected salary conditions.
After the deadline, the board of AzW, together with renowned external experts, will select candidates for the second round. They will receive detailed information about AzW and the next steps.
2nd Round Selected candidates will present conceptual, content-related, and organizational proposals concerning the future of the museum AzW.
The successor to the director will be chosen by the end of 2015. The handover will take place during 2016. Dietmar Steiner will leave AzW at the end of 2016.
At the beginning of 2015, Hannes Swoboda (*1946) became the new chairman of the board of the Vienna Center for Architecture - one of the co-founders of AzW. A trained lawyer, he served as a member of the Vienna State Assembly from 1983 to 1988 and held the position of city councilor for planning and urban development in the city of Vienna from 1988 to 1994. From 1996 to 2014, Swoboda was a member of the European Parliament.
