Riederau is a small village located on the shore of the third largest lake in Bavaria, 35 kilometers southwest of Munich. This peaceful place on the outskirts has been chosen as home by the architect duo Axel Tilch and Gisela Drexler, who built their studio with a guest house in the garden behind their house. The elongated shape with sharply cut corners bends in the middle of the layout, responding to the plot while dividing the quiet and social areas of the house. Both the exterior and interior walls remain without additional surface finishes made of pink insulated concrete. A trio of large-format wooden windows is set deep into the facade, further enhancing the plasticity of the entire structure. In both design and construction, the architects aimed to simplify the process as much as possible. The massive insulated concrete walls help prevent overheating of the interior during the summer months. Conversely, in winter, heating the building is taken care of not only by the fireplace but also by electrically heated floors. Additionally, a protruding element for wood storage during the cold winter months captures attention from the outside. The exterior cladding of the house is also complemented by a steep staircase, providing access to the wooden roof terrace.
