Completion of the Broad Museum in LA by DS+R

On Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, a new headquarters for the Broad Art Foundation will open at the end of September this year, for which Renzo Piano (LACMA 2008) and Zaha Hadid (Michigan State University 2012) have had the opportunity to design museums in the past.
The collection of the Broad couple, who decided to donate 200 million dollars for the construction of the new museum, consists of around two thousand art pieces. The museum, currently under construction, was created based on the winning design by New York architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The project titled “Veil and Vault” comprises two distinct forms: the upper level with a spacious exhibition hall is covered by a lightweight honeycomb structure, while the massive lower part contains the entrance and service rooms. The museum aims to not isolate itself from the surrounding world but to rather appear “porously and perforated”.
The first opportunity to explore the magnificent spaces, with a total area of 7,300 m², was already in mid-February, but the main exhibition featuring artworks by American icons of the second half of the 20th century is planned for the end of summer.
